Looking ahead

Our Chief Executive, Jean-Frederic Levesque, has been seconded to lead the Agency for Clinical Innovation (ACI) – the organisation charged with securing change in clinical care in NSW. Jean-Frederic joined BHI in March 2013 and under his leadership, we have gone from strength to strength – increasing the breadth and depth of public reporting in NSW; diversifying formats used to deliver information; introducing sophisticated data analyses and measurement approaches; and enhancing stakeholder engagement.

Although Jean-Frederic is now refocusing his attention to supporting and disseminating clinical innovation, BHI will continue to bring our plans for future development of healthcare measurement and reporting to fruition.

We are changing some things – introducing a new suite of measures on ambulance activity and performance; new ways of searching for relevant results on our website, and a new updated structure for our quarterly reporting of emergency department, admitted patient and elective surgical care.

The next six months will see new reports about experiences of hospital care among patients with a disability; about conceptual models to structure and guide efforts to measure and report meaningfully on unwarranted clinical variation; and new releases of patient survey data. Our annual performance report, Healthcare in Focus, will introduce new measures with a particular emphasis on safety and on value.

Of course, many things will remain unchanged - our commitment to transparency and to excellence, and an organisational imperative to strike a balance between recognising individual achievements, valuing and harnessing different perspectives when we come together as teams, and in acting synergistically and collaboratively in system efforts to achieve shared goals and objectives.
