Emergency department utilisation by people with cancer

Released: 20 November 2014

BHI and Cancer Institute NSW have collaborated on this Insights Series report to further understand how cancer patients are treated in NSW.

Previously there was little information available for patterns of, and reasons for, emergency department visits made by people with cancer in NSW.

The research for the first time links data from the NSW Cancer Registries, emergency department and hospital databases, plotting the journey of almost 200,000 visits by cancer patients to the emergency department.
