Upcoming Bureau of Health Information reports

In preparation for upcoming editions of Hospital Quarterly, the Bureau has announced plans to revise the way some NSW public hospital emergency department performance information is reported.

A Bureau analysis suggests there may be differences across hospitals in the way emergency department information is recorded. Such differences in emergency department data could make it difficult to accurately compare hospitals.

A more extensive analysis is now under way. As a result, the Bureau will not report on emergency department waiting times in the September issue of Hospital Quarterly, but expects to report on them again in the December issue.

The September edition of Hospital Quarterly will continue to report on the number of patients attending emergency departments by triage category for more than 60 NSW public hospitals. It will also continue to report on elective surgery activity and performance in more than 80 hospitals.

The Bureau will release a range of other reports during the second half of 2011 as part of its commitment to make information about the NSW health system publicly available.
