Bureau of Health Information Chief Executive, Dr Diane Watson, appointed Chief Executive of Australian National Health Performance Authority

The Chairman of the Bureau of Health Information, Professor Bruce Armstrong, today announced that Dr Diane Watson, the Bureau’s Chief Executive, has been appointed to lead the new National Health Performance Authority. Dr Watson has been on leave from the Bureau since February 2012, working to establish the Authority in the role of its acting Chief Executive.

Dr Watson joined the Bureau of Health Information in September 2009 as its inaugural Chief Executive and quickly and successfully established the organisation, which has continued to grow and deliver in-depth reporting on the NSW health system. Prior to coming to Australia in 2009, Dr Watson had worked as Director of Research and Analysis at the Health Council of Canada, which was established by the Prime Minister and Premiers to monitor and report to Canadians on the performance of their health care system.

In her new role leading the National Health Performance Authority, Dr Watson will continue to build and expand health care performance reporting in Australia and contribute to attaining our national health goals.

On behalf of the Board and staff of the Bureau, Professor Armstrong congratulated Dr Watson on her appointment, which was well-earned recognition of the excellence of her work in developing the Bureau and in establishing independent, high quality, public reporting on health system performance in NSW.

The Bureau will now move to recruit a new Chief Executive. In the meantime it is well placed to continue its important work under the leadership of Acting Chief Executive, Ms Kim Browne.
